Welcome to H city! SugarLand and Katy have very good neighborhoods with lots of desis. A lot depends upon where your office located. Cost of living is in Houston is low compared to LA, NY. Homes are "affordable". But property taxes are high (average is above 3%). Food, gas and misc. services are cheap. Insurance and utility costs are high though. May be we should show a factor to US Govt, each unused visa equals to XX unused economy dollars.

How did you find out the status of your namecheck and FP?
I called up their customer service no and was able to reach an IO at TSC and asked about the FBI name check status. I did speak to an IO 3 to 4 times over a period of 6 months and initially it was pending but later on it got cleared. I did not ask for the exact date it was cleared but it was on feb1st 2008 that I found that it was cleared. But they did tell me the exact date on which the FBI name check was initiated. It was initiated on Aug 1st 2007 where are my 485 RD is June21st 2007.

I have copies of all my I-20's and H1B's with me but I never kept copies of I 94 cards. Now if they start asking for all such documents its going to be very difficult. What happens if you are missing an old I20 can you ask school to go thro their records and issue a duplicate. To be honest from 2003 onwards everything is online via SEVIS so they should not even ask us for paper documents. Same with H1 with this new system they have started from this year.
I'm guessing they would need only the latest I-94 copy since we turn in every I-94 at the time of departure from the country. I could be wrong, someone can comment. I have never kept all the I-94's, hope it is not needed.

Steven brings up a good point about those camera phones. I fear them to a degree. Someone told me recently that they had read/heard advice that when you're using a credit card at a store make sure you keep the numbers covered up. Apparently, people with camera phones have been known to take a picture of your card to get the numbers and expiration date.

I got an RFE letter yesterday asking me to provide 1040 and W-2's from 1999.
I will be digging in my papers and boxes to see if I still have copies of my 1999 and 2000 returns.
The IRS does not keep records of 1040's for more than 7 years and when I called them they said they don't think they'll have a record of 1999.
I'm hoping that I will find my 1999 return, but what if I don't? Has anybody here been asked to provide returns going that far? especially for an Employment-based application?
The funny thing is that in 1999 and 2000 I was on an F1 visa as a student and I did have a graduate assistantship. I started employment in 2001.
I feel like the officer is trying to make it extremely hard for me to get my status adjusted....

well i got marriage ceremony , not civil yet...because i didn't know since he have this problem in court. and he says that they would let him out once he's in jail.. the chance of he goes to jail is 50 50... if goes he will get about 18 months. will still can do my papers?

Did he say anything about how many trips abroad you can make with the 2 approvals he gave back?
My lawyer says I should apply for more AP's if I need to make more trips abroad than the # of approvals that I have.
SO I'm wondering how many approvals does one trip take?
Because if you have two stamped approvals with you ,a person with 2 initial approvals will have one stamped approval with him.
So will he be able to make another trip abroad?

The officer told me that when I use the APs for my next trip then they are going stamp the same APs again. And that I will not need to submit anything on my next trip. It would be advisable to keep some photocopies of the AP just in case they ask for a copy.

My lawyer told me that using EAD will not effected H4 status . It is good to get extensions on H4 along with H1 even you use your EAD to be safer side if some thing wrong with 485

Does it make sense to change status to h4 from f1 before my spouse goes out of country and come back on h4 instead of AP?
