Folks,
Iam starting this new thread so that people will know what are the pros and cons leaving a company once GC is approved.
1.What are all the things to be noted while leaving the company after getting GC.
2.To be specific how long a consultant should be with company after GC is approved.
3.Also once GC is approved and if the consultant is off the payroll for say 2 to 3 months will there be any problem while filing for citizen ship.

Just now my lawyer called to tell that she got all my receipts , filed on july 2nd but my wifes application was rejected for "insufficient filing fees", I had put in a single check for $745 , how can this be, it was both in the same fedex packet, she says it is some "mailroom error", so she sent back the application with a letter and my receipt copy to accept. My app also had a $745 check and that was receipted,

First of all those receipts are Applicant's (Employee's) property so I believe, if something is my property I MUST have it with me... Period. Now one thoughful reason is that, during the whole damn process, if you are not satisfied with the action taken by your lawyer and you want to change your attorney then having receipts with you would make your life easy then. Actually my attorney is really good and I do not see this coming but hey, if you have your originals with you it is better. Another reason is that suppose say in future, if you have to plan for Emergency travel outside, you would not have to plan waiting for receipts coming from your attorney then.

I agree - better be safe than sorry. My take - you are just unlucky, USCIS randomly picks folks who have been in the country for a while to see if they have ever been out of status. Likely, they are doing that with you.

I am almost sure that if your work place (physical presence ) happens to be at a Not-for -profit organization, you case would be a cap-exempt one. My lawyer told me the backlog is 400K. As an European, I am expecting to wait between 2 to 3 years for my GC. Anything sooner would be a nice surprise!

I understand ur problem, let us fix one by one, Ideally you are supposed to apply ur H1B atleast before 1 month, at the same time you can apply ur H1B extension within 45 days after expiry date with a genuine reason. As your Attorney to show proof and have him apply for H1B. Once you receive your receipt number you are still on H1B, if there is a way try to get it done in premium process.
Now coming to using EAD, once you start using it, as far as my little knowledge goes you should not come back to H1B.

If you are making 200K+/yr, just bite your lip and stay put. There are very very few careers which give you such a good pay scale.
I don't think you can do a MS in CompSci with out a BS with same specialization as far as understanding subject matter goes, but you could possibly do an MS in Information systems or similar.
But it all depends on your GRE score. If you have a high GRE score with good percentile in quantitative section then you could get into a good program.
I came to canada in 2000.I have been in USA Since 2003.
I started the GC process in Ohio, moved to bay area in 2006,stated the process again, recaptured old PD( EB2 all the way). Was hoping to get GC in Aug 2008 when my PD was current for 2 months. Hope will get it this year.
After moving to bay area I saw lots of engineer,mostly software, seemed happy with jobs. Started doing some search and found that this is one of the least stressful jobs in US with great salary and growth potential. There is no more growth in my field and it is very stressful and draining.
Thanks for the views guys, would like to know if can do MS with a bachelors in non engineering field.

My best guess is he is just threatening you because he will loose money on you. If you want you can scare him saying that you will put a case against him in USCIS by various reasons.

Yes forwarded the copy to the lawyer this morning.I have an appointment with lawyer Friday morning regarding this..So for lawyer office didn't received anything from uscis.
Here is my backround
1)Worked for Company A from 2003 to 2008.
2)Company A applied I-140 and approved April 2006. AOS 485 filed on July 2007. Got EAD but never used it
3)September 2008 I have Joined employer “B” by transferring H1B (Valid until Aug 21st 2010).
4)Employer A revoked 140 which triggered 485 denials in October 2008.
5)Applied MTR and it was approved in NOVEMBER 2008 and 485 re-opened.
This is the only major concern I have.Though I have approved MTR and 485 re-opened, but my online status of 485 still showing denied.
My AP approved last month.......my wife EAD,AP approved last month.I am the primary..strange
I know I have moderate control over this situation.Just having good faith & hope.This whole thing H1-B,DL,GC,EAD,AP & visa stamping ..etc what a pain for some people.Very sad.For uscis error(485 denial wrongly) I am not only lost money( closee to 5k) also lost "n" no of days of sleep back in 2008 and now :mad:

I would (and did) send to the address on the confirmation page. If you search for other forums on EAD filing recently, that is what is also recommended there
